Whether it’s your first year of teaching or your 50th, I think the transition from summer schedules back to the school day is always tough, and a little bit nerve wracking. But like with any transition, there are things you can do to make it go more smoothly. Here are a few tips and tricks I’ve collected to help make sure that when the school year comes you are ready to physically and mentally tackle it.   Tip #1: Prep routines and procedures before heading back Every year I start off with a fresh notebook, and on the first page of that notebook are  my brainstorms for systems and routines. This practice of designing my procedures helps me feel prepared and organized for the first few weeks back to school. It also gives me insight into how I should set up my classroom or remind me which changes I wanted to make from the previous year. You can also use these procedures to inform your plans for the first weeks of school too. If the idea of planning is a little daunting, break this process up over a few days; find a beautiful place to sit and get yourself some tea or coffee. Tip #2: Do something that you can only do in summer everyday before you head back (go to the beach, read, drink coffee on the porch) I spend the summers working at a nature camp on an island and my absolute favorite thing to do is go swimming in the ocean. You can even find me out there when it’s raining, I just don’t want to miss a second of it because ocean swims aren’t something I can do during the year. So, as the summer draws to a close, make sure you’re making time for your vacation or summer go-tos. Whether it’s spending time with family, finishing the reading you wanted to over the summer or going to cafes to sit and watch people walk by, just make time for it. This will help you recharge for the school year.   Our summer bucket list is full of suggestions for getting the most out of your summer.   Tip #3 Create your Must Dos and May Dos This is actually a list technique that I learned through TeacherVision called  the must dos and may dos lists. I think creating these two separate categories helps you lay out what you want to do, and then you can decide what you need to prepare before the start of the school year and then what you can do to  prepare. To me, it makes the intimidating task of the beginning of the year more manageable. It also helps you make sure you are still giving yourself time to be on summer vacation. Tip #4: Pick out your back to school outfit Growing up, I remember that my favorite thing about going back to school was buying my school supplies and picking out my first day of school outfit. It was special and exciting. I think we should bring that same joy to our first day of school too. Investing in a new outfit or picking out something that makes you feel good can give you that little energy boost to take on the first week of school. It’s a small thing, but can help you feel confident and ready to go. Tip#5: Set your SMART goals; personal and professional Of course the calendar year begins in January and with that we set out resolutions. However, I really think of my year as beginning at the end of August. I find that it’s a perfect time to reset or commit to goals, both professional and personal. I like to use the SMART goal framework, but of course you can use any kind of goal setting that is comfortable to you. I think it’s really important to set goals for yourself as a teacher, but also as a person. It’s a reminder that, while we are teachers, it’s not our whole identity. Racism in Huck Finn Kids are often exposed to books long before they are ready for them or exposed to them in a manner that seems almost calculated to evaporate whatever enthusiasm the student may bring to them. Very few youngsters of high school age are ready for The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Leaving aside its subtle depiction of racial attitudes and its complex view of American society, the book is written in a language that will seem baroque, obscure and antiquated to many young people today. The vastly sunnier Tom Sawyer is a book for kids, but The Adventures for Huckleberry Finn most emphatically is not. Killed a nigger.† â€Å"Well, it’s lucky; because sometimes people do get hurt,† she responds (Telgen 9). As some critics have pointed out, Huck never condemns slavery or racial prejudice in general, but he seems to find an exception to the rule in Jim. Nevertheless, the fact that Huck does learn to see beyond racial stereotypes in the case of Jim is a profound development, considering his upbringing. He lived in a household with the Widow Douglas and Miss Watson where slaves were owned. And Pap’s ranting over a free black man indicates his deep racial prejudice. When confronted with the fact that a free black man was highly educated and could vote, Pap decides he wants nothing to do with a government that has allowed this to happen. He wants the free man, whom he calls â€Å"a prowling, thieving, infernal, white-shirted free nigger† to be sold at auction (Telgen 9). In other words, all black people are slaves, white man’s property, in his eyes. Such are the views on race with which Huck has been raised. Enhancing the quality of the services offered: the focus of the healthcare organization should be on enhancing the quality of the services offered. It is the most important aspect which affects the health of the individual. For enhancing the quality of the services offered, focus on the healthcare professionals should be on providing attention to the needs of the patients and encouraging equal treatment to every patient for ensuring that every patient is satisfied with the quality of the healthcare services provided by the organization (Ali Ahmed, 2010). Setting up call centers for collecting feedbacks related to issues faced by patients: for listening to the issues or complaints of the patients, a separate department needs to be established where patients can lodge their complaints. These complaints and issues must be given importance and focus should be on eliminating the aspects affecting the quality of the services and delivery of the services on time. Feedback forms should be provided to the patients for collecting immediate feedbacks from the patients. Spending time on the patient education: healthcare professionals need to avoid being in a rush while providing healthcare services to the patients. Patients are sometimes unsure and confused and it is the responsibility of the healthcare profession to clear the doubts of the service user. Healthcare professional must educate the patient and provide a summary of the discussion for ensuring that proper understanding is developed (Farley, et. al., 2014). Focusing on the cleanliness of the hospital: It has been analyzed that patients develop infections due to the lack of cleanliness in the hospital. Quality of the hospital is an indicator with the help of cleanliness of the premises of the hospital. These cases of infection developing at the premises of hospital can be eliminated with the help of proper cleanliness. Enhancing the atmosphere of the hospital: a hospital is a place where patients feel relaxed and away from noises. Hospitals should maintain a less noisy, harsh free and clean environment for the patients. This can be done with the help of use of effective equipment at the atmosphere of the hospital (Billingsley, 2015). Implementation of policies and practices for eliminating discriminatory practices: discriminatory practices can affect the quality of health of the patients. Hospitals need to implement effective policies and practices which will help in eliminating discriminatory practices. Every patient must be provided equal attention for enhancing the experience of the patient. A check needs to be kept by themanagement for ensuring that staff of the hospital is complying with policies and practices formulated for eliminating discriminatory practices. These policies and practices will ensure the safety of the patients (stman, et. al., 2015). Managing diversity: patients of the hospital are from different cultures, background, age, gender, caste, and race. These aspects must be considered by the hospital so as to ensure that quality healthcare services are being offered to the patients. The language barrier may affect the quality of the healthcare services. For the purpose of communicating with the patients from a different culture, technology can be used and training can be provided to the staff of the healthcare setting for communicating with the patients in an effective manner. Use of innovative technologies: advanced technologies can be used for providing better healthcare services to the patients. Hospitals must focus on providing results of the tests timely so as to ensure that proper treatment is provided to the patient on time. Technology can be used for storing the details of the patients. This will enhance the quality of the health of individual which will contribute towards the enhanced health of the patient and quality experience. Equipment needs to be installed near the patient so that it can call the health care professional during emergency situations (Gau, et. al., 2013). Conclusion Thus, it can be concluded from the above discussion, that there are various factors present in the healthcare setting which is affecting the health of the patients. Due to these factors, quality of health of the patients and satisfaction level of the patients is decreasing. It results in providing a bad experience to the patients. The focus of the healthcare setting should be on enhancing the quality of the services offered to the patients which will enhance the experience gained by them. A healthcare organization can adopt different strategies which will help in providing quality healthcare services to the patients and enhancing their experience.
